European GP preview with Al Gibson and Steve Matchett
As we look ahead to this weekend's European GP in Valencia, we are joined by two of the most creative - and knowledgeable - men in the F1 business. Steve Matchett needs no introduction to our US viewers. Rated by many as the most astute technical commentator on network television, Steve is an integral part of the brilliant SpeedTV F1 commentary team. A former championship-winning mechanic at Benetton, Steve is also a highly-acclaimed writer and author in his own right. He has to date published three books; he writes regularly for F1 magazines around the world; and his autobiography, The Mechanic's Tale, now in its 14th reprint, is rated as the most successful motor racing book ever produced by Orion Publishing. Al Gibson worked with Steve at Benetton in 1996-97 and went on to become Chief Mechanic at BAR-Honda. Then, suddenly, he switched career path to pursue his dream of sculpting used F1 car parts into dramatic shapes. His Carbon Art, exhibited by the Drang Gallery, can today be seen in all parts of the globe while commissions for Alastair flow regularly from some of the biggest names in the industry. WilliamsF1's Mark Barnett guides us towards Valencia from the point of view of a strategy engineer; and we'll be sizing up the European GP with all the usual comment and insight. Will we have an eighth winner this weekend? Both Steve and Al will have their views....

this episode?
Congratulations to Michael Schumacher on his first Poduim of the year.
I heard on the italian tv that ferrari have two teams working for the season 2013 and 2014 cars,so the fia have done the rules allready ? and if yes next year what will be different from this year ? thank’s and great show.
I can’t see anyone. Are they on the broadcast yet?
The recent legality of the “f ducting” on the Mercedes GP car seems to me like it opens up other options for teams to utilize changing aero components of the car. Would things like tire movement be able to be utilized ? Obviously I’m not well versed in the Formula 1 rules but it seems like an option.
Steve is my favorite Formula 1 Commentator I love his explanations of the technical aspects of Formula 1 cars!!! He spots things that are unbelievable with just brief shots of the cars!!
(Creativity) – Steve
lol very honest and candid….thankyou Al….and great show again
Marketing at it’s pinnacle in motorsport, Le Mans
@ Hank. Webber flipped his Merc twice I belive, and Brundle had a massive tyre blow out.
Speaking of the Davidson crash. Do u guys know what other (current)F1 driver had a massive shunt at LeMans in 1999?
Its the #2 driver :)
Excellent! My comment to Karun was read out! Rounds out an brilliant week of Le Mans.
well done Karun. Hope to see u back in F1 soon.
Karun Great description.
I bet Steve has a different view of drivers hitting walls! Drivers don’t have to do an all nighter fixing the drivers mistake!
For refueling, why not have a function that does not allow the clutch to be engaged before the fuel line is disconnected from the car?
Porsche 917.
lol …..Lewis “the bridge is the best bit”
So true, about the paddock being more “open”
I hope the fans dont complain about the Pirellis, like the teams are. Its made the racing exciting and something to really look forward to.
Mr Steve Matchett it will be great to read about your experiences in a blog on line.
READ THE QUESTIONS!
I must say, a very good pairing of interviewees, and good work in the studio with cuts to Al/Steve as appropriate. A great webcast, wish everyone was this good. . .
dear webmaster, timestamps on comments and converations would be easy to implement and (to me at least) useful.
These guys obviously know and love each other so much. It’s a privilege to eavesdrop on their conversation and reminiscing. I love it!
Hey Guys
