1st anniversary - celebrating with Rubens Barrichello
As The Flying Lap marks its first anniversary, we are delighted to welcome as our guest Rubens Barrichello, live from Orlando, Florida. A gentleman, a passionate racer and above all a remarkable Grand Prix driver, Rubens is as hungry today as he was when he began with karts and then Formula Vauxhall Lotus in the late 1980s early 90s. He scored his first pole and podium finish when driving for Jordan in 1994; he finished a brilliant second at Monaco for Stewart in 1997 - and he scored his first Grand Prix win in a gloriously skilful display for Ferrari at Hockenheim in 2000. He has won three Italian Grands Prix at Monza - two for Ferrari, one for Brawn - and he scored a sensational British Grand Prix victory at Silvestone for Ferrari in 2003. In addition, Rubens is the driver who gave Michael Schumacher a win in Austria, 2002 - and who then won the US Grand Prix that same year in compensation. In total, Rubens has won 11 F1 races, finished on the podium 68 times, taken 14 poles, set 17 fastest laps and scored 658 points. More than that, Rubens Goncalves Barrichello has started 322 Grands Prix - (excluding the four weekends in which he never got to race). That makes him the most experienced F1 driver in the history of the sport (ahead of Michael Schumacher, 285, and Riccardo Patrese, 256) - and the second-highest points finisher of all time.

Excellent and relaxed interview of a guy I truly admire. Emotional, comfortable and talks from his heart. Hope to see you once again in a car for 2012. But if not we want to see you in the paddock as a presenter (with David Coulthard?)
Peter – EXCELLENT Show! I am a huge Rubens fan and am so glad that he retweeted this show’s coverage so that I could see it. I remember being in the paddock in Montreal in 2006. There was a long line to the portable washrooms just before second practice on Friday. What a surprise when Rubens came up behind me in his driver’s suit. He put his hand on my shoulder and sighed at the length of the lineup. I had an idea and told him to follow me. We went over the about 10 empty women’s units and I stood guard to keep the way clear for him! Not quite the venue one would hope to be in to meet a favourite driver – but memorable to me just the same.
Best regards to you both and I look forward to seeing Rubens racing in Austin!!
Rubinho!!!!!!! All the Brazilian love and energy from the winter in Massachusetts! ADORO VOCÊ!!!
Congrats Peter! Great show! Rubinho we are all with you for the next season! Go for it!
Looking foward to the coming Formula One Season.
Peter, please say #tamojunto to Rubens!
Great show, congrats!!
All the best,
Tobias.
Please can you ask him what the latest deadline is for him to be given an answer for 2012? his fans cant bear the passing days with no news and if he had to say what percentage does he feel is appropriate as to his chances of remaining in F1? please answer :)
Thank you to you Peter and Rubens
Hi Peter, Love the show – thanks for being here.
Happy Bithday!!!! Great Show as always!!!
Quick, someone put another dollar in the slot! The hour is up!
Peter #COTA announced today alomost 300 people working at the Austin track. 9000 permanent seats in the gransstand and 120,000 other seats!
ANIL;
you move your right leg to the left to brake?
evet bu. pedalların yerinin değişmesi değil.
I missed most of the broadcast. If, God forbid, Rubens doesn’t make the F1 grid, and chance he’ll make it over to St Pete for the opening Indycar race?

Congratulations Peter on your First anniversary for The Flying Lap
Twice in the last 12 years, a Grand Prix has been interupted by a ‘lunatic’ invading the circuit, causing a safety car…both won by Rubens…here’s to crazy people!
Hi Peter, i heard mention of right foot braking. Could you please explain this, is it that the pedals are switched around or would you move your right leg to the left to brake?
2012 helmet design can be found here…http://twitpic.com/7kx3yd
He looked pretty calm, so I’m guessing there’s more chance of him being in the seat than any of the other guys.
Great Interview. Rubes is always a secure choice. Hope Williams figure that out.
Peter great job in making this so accesable to us!
What a lovely touch from Rubens; calling his boys to take part like that. Great interview.
wow Peter, fantastic! Thank you for this show!
He’s so cool and down to earth
He’s better than Charlie
Big Thanks …..See you in Australia!!!
Nice to have this in a favourable timezone for Australia…don’t have to wait for podcast! Yay!
Love your work Peter…here’s to the next 50+ episodes!
Late show, but worth waiting… I thank all of you who made it possible.
Good questions, very honest answers, nice collector pictures too inclusive the “Bart” Barrichello one.
If Rubens could bottle that enthusiasm, he’d be richer than Bernie! Top man…
GO RUBENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rubens is such a lively, passionate and down to earth guy. A real inspiration. F1 needs people like Rubens. Any team boss (and sponsor) should be able to see what as asset he would be in their organisation.
You can tell he loves it soooo much. I hope he’s back this season just so he can get his 20 years. Then come back as Charlie Whiting apprentice.
Been looking forward to this all day. Rubens is such a great ambassador for F1. Along with Junior Dos Santos (UFC HW Champ) are two of the best sportsman on the planet. WELL DONE BRAZIL!!!!
