What has been the hardest new feature for Scarbs to analyse/understand?

Could Ferrari’s new windtunnel still be giving them wrong results? I think it was talked about on this show by the guru-windtunnel-designer (Peter’s guest) how Luca Montezemolo went and changed his tunnel design so it would be an architectural building or something like that? The crazy shape of it can’t be good for it.

Hi Scarbs & Peter,

I read someone comment recently (an amateur mind you) that the low nose of the McLaren should give them a slightly lower CoG and perhaps help then with mechanical grip in wet races. Does this argument have any merit to it in your opinion?

I saw a picture of the McLaren from today’s test and they had a temperature sticker on the rear light. Are they doing something interesting with the exausts ?

Probably a question for either of you. Teams often talk about having a ‘50%’ wind tunnel or similar. Ferrari famously upgraded theirs recently from 50% to 60% to try and avoid last year’s correlation problems. Is it so difficult to build a 100% wind tunnel (then you could test with the real car rather than a model) or is this a silly question?

Question for Craig (by the way, congrats for your articles on Autosport): what will the reported longer wheelbase on the Ferrari F2012 mean regarding tyre warm-up and aerodynamic behaviour?

Question for both: Do you guys believe that the severe restriction of off-throttle and exhaust blown diffusers will finally help closing the performance gap between the top grid teams?

What was yours impression about performance of Ferrari’s front pull rod and was worth it introducing it to gain small aero benefit.

Questions for Craig:
1. What techniques/strategies do the teams use to estimate the fuel weight of the other cars on the testing runs? Could they for example compare the power-limited acceleration of the other cars against the traction-limited phase of said acceleration?
2. What do you think can be read from the race simulation that Vettel did earlier, and the one that Lewis Hamilton did?
3. There was a run where Hamilton and Vettel did similar times – but Hamilton seemed to be running more wing. Are we at a situation where perhaps the McL and RBR are both neck and neck in terms of laptime; except the McL runs a bit more wing to do so? Despite the extra wing; the McLaren seemed strong on the straights too – it seemed like it was S2 and S3 that it was losing out in.

And for both Peter and Craig – Who’s hot, and who’s not? Will we see Vettel be the first driver to ever get his first 3 titles in succession? (there’s been 3 in succession; but never the first 3 titles!)

Can the pull-rod suspensions have a different influence on tyres wear? I’m referring to Ferrari.

How worried should Ferrari Fans be about the current apparent state of the F2012 and the comments coming from the team regarding the amount of work left to be done? Or do they have the best poker face at the moment?

Are you able to explain what sort of things you look for when doing this? I ask as it’s something I’d love to be able to do myself when watching racing cars!
