This week's episode is about Commercial Portrait Photography featuring 3 successful and talented photographers from across North America. Peter will be talking to Tom Hawkins from Vancouver, Canada who is currently working in New York. Tom is an exceptional photographer covering not only portrait work but also, fashion, beauty, products and fine art work. David Ellis of St. Paul, Minnesota (USA) had aimed to become a lawyer, but after one week of school made the switch to photography and never looked back. After 20 years of shooting he is a much sought after commercial photographer for major brands in the US. Our third guest is Pittsburgh’s Michael Ray, Michael not only does commercial portrait work but also runs a state of the art photography studio and is a dedicated blogger and food and industrial photographer

I think one thing that you guys aren’t talking about is what kind of photographer do you want to be, a star or someone that scrapes a living together based on whatever they can get. I think there is a real divide here.

It seems that very produced images are very popular in magazines today – do you think just as some photographers resisted moving to digital others are resisting working on an image after the fact.

What Tom has done with showing his best work is a no brainer if you ask me – people want to BE those beautiful people, even though they aren’t. Even if he does other work in addition to the big profile stuff, people don’t get intimidated if you ask me.
